Following 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings continues the history of Israel’s monarchy in light of God’s covenants. During the period of 2 Kings, the kingdom of Israel continued to be divided between Israel in the north and Judah to the south. There were evil rulers such as Athaliah and Manasseh.…
…and godly rulers such as Hezekiah and Josiah. During this period God sent many prophets to His people, notably Elisha and Isaiah. In spite of the downfall and captivity of all Israel by the end of 2 Kings, the future remained open for a new work of the Lord in faithfulness to His promise to the house of David.ISBN

The books of 1 Kings and 2 Kings, like 1 & 2 Samuel, were originally one book. Together, Samuel and Kings relate the whole history of Israel’s monarchy, in the light of God’s covenants, from its rise under the ministry of Samuel to its fall at the hands of the Babylonians.
The welfare of Israel and her kings is shown to depend on their obedience to God’s law. During the period of 1 & 2 Kings, the kingdom was divided between Israel in the north and Judah to the south. There were evil rulers such as Ahab and Jezebel, and godly rulers such as Solomon, Hezekiah and Josiah. Many prophets were sent by God to Israel during this period, notably Elijah and Elisha. In spite of the downfall and captivity of all Israel by the end of 2 Kings, the future remained open for a new work of the Lord in faithfulness to His promise to the house of David. -

Highlights of the Old Testament: History briefly looks at each of the Old Testament books of Genesis through Esther: its overall message, how it relates to the other books of the Bible, and what it reveals about God and His great plan.
This study covers the five books of law (the Pentateuch – Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy), and the twelve books of history (Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, 1 & 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther). Throughout these books God’s holiness, righteousness, justice, mercy, and love are revealed. If your heart and mind are open, you will come to better know Him who loved us and sent His Son to save us.ISBN
